Previews are close approximations. Google may rewrite descriptions, and cuts titles by pixel width, not an exact character count.
Meta tags to paste in your page's <head>
Why this matters
Your page title and description are the first thing people see on Google and when your link is shared on Facebook or LinkedIn. If they're too long, they get cut off mid-sentence. If they're vague, people scroll past. A clear, specific title and a description that reads like a mini-ad bring more clicks, for free.
- Title: about 50–60 characters. Put your main keyword first, and your business name last.
- Description: about 120–155 characters. Say what you offer, why you, and what to do next ("Message us", "Book today").
- Share image: 1200 × 630 pixels, with little text on it. Facebook crops the edges.
- Most website builders (WordPress with Yoast, Wix, Shopify) have "SEO title" and "Meta description" boxes, so you can paste your text there instead of editing code.
