People now talk to search engines. Here's how to make sure they find you

Customers no longer type "bakery Makati". They ask "where can I order a sugar-free birthday cake in Makati by Saturday?" Here's how to show up for questions like that.

Watch how people search today, especially younger customers. They don't type two keywords anymore. They ask a full question, the way they'd ask a friend: "Where can I order a sugar-free birthday cake in Makati that can deliver by Saturday?" Then they ask a follow-up: "Which of those accepts GCash?"

That's conversational search: talking to Google's AI Mode, Gemini, ChatGPT, Siri or Google Assistant as if it were a person. The AI understands the whole question, remembers the conversation, and picks a few businesses to recommend. Here's what that means for you.

What changes when search becomes a conversation

  • Questions get longer and more specific. Details like budget, location, timing and payment method are part of the question, so the businesses that state those details clearly win.

  • Fewer clicks, more decisions inside the chat. Many people get their answer without visiting any website. Your information has to be correct wherever the AI might read it, not just on your homepage.

  • Follow-up questions narrow the list. "Is it open on Sundays?" "Do they have parking?" If your hours, payment options and services aren't written anywhere, you drop out at the follow-up.

  • Voice is normal now. People ask out loud while driving or cooking, and they expect one short, confident answer.

What to update this month

Write the way your customers talk

Look at the messages you get on Messenger, Viber and Instagram. The exact questions customers type are the questions they ask AI tools too. Use those words on your website and in your posts. If customers say "pa-deliver" or "COD", it's fine to mention those terms naturally.

Spell out the details people filter by

Make a simple list on your website and Google Business Profile with:

  • Areas you deliver to, and how long it takes

  • Payment methods: GCash, Maya, bank transfer, card, cash on delivery

  • Opening hours, including holidays

  • Price ranges or starting prices ("from ₱1,500")

  • Minimum orders, lead times and rush options

  • Parking, accessibility, pet-friendly, kid-friendly: whatever applies to you

Make your Google Business Profile complete

For local searches, Google's AI leans heavily on Business Profiles. Fill in every section: categories, services with descriptions, products, attributes, photos, and the Q&A. Post an update every week or two. A complete, active profile is the single best thing a local business can do for conversational search.

Add a "quick answers" section

Put a short FAQ on each service page. Begin every answer with a direct yes or no or a number, then add the detail: "Yes, we deliver within Metro Manila the same day for orders placed before 12 noon." That's the format AI tools and voice assistants like to read out.

Keep it consistent and current

Outdated holiday hours or an old price on one page can make an AI tool give a wrong answer, and customers blame you, not the AI. Set a reminder to check your website, Business Profile and social pages once a month.

Make your own content conversational too

Free AI tools can help here. Paste a list of real customer questions into ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude and ask: "Group these into the 10 most common questions and suggest a short, friendly answer for each." Edit the answers so they're accurate and sound like you, then add them to your site. Our guide on planning a month of posts with free AI shows how to brief the AI properly.

The takeaway

Conversational search rewards businesses that answer clearly and completely. You don't need new technology for that. You need to write down what you already tell customers every day, keep it up to date, and put it where both people and AI can find it.
